We host FemHack, the hackathon that challenges gender inequality in technology

On January 21, 22 and 23, 2022 January 21, 22 and 23, 2022 more than 1,500 women from more than 50 different countries countries (including Spain, the United States, Australia and Peru) participated in the online hackathon The International FemHack: the first FemHack Hackathon with an all-female participation accompanied by conferences educational conferences given by women leaders in the technology sector.
The event was organized and coordinated online by NUWE from our facilities, the coworking and flexible work spaces of Aticco Workspaces in the city of Barcelona.
The Hackathon (or programming competition) was designed to be suitable for all levels and offered competition in the Web, Mobile and/or Data Development modalities. The tests consisted of an individual challenge and another group challenge, in which participants from different modalities had to unite to achieve the best score.
The event also included a series of conferences, open to all audiences, given by women leaders in the technology sector. The theme of the presentations was very varied, although all offered inspiration, female role models and motivation.
Our innovation director participated as a speaker at the FemHack hackathon
The speakers were the following (in order of appearance):
- Celia Lozano Grijalba (Bosonit)
- Idoia Martí i Aluja (AllWomen)
- Imma Calvo (Google)
- Cristina San Jose (Banco Santander)

- Belen Lorente-Galdos (Nespresso)

What completed the event was the active participation of leading companies Novartis y Banco Santander. These not only participated as sponsors of the event, but also as recruiting companies with the intention of capturing female talent.
NUWE provided a meeting space for participating job seekers and companies through the virtual simulation platform Gather.
In addition to numerous prizes for the winners of each Hackathon category (such as a 23.8" Huawei screen), the prestigious programming schools Ironhack, CodeOp, 4Geeks Academy and Assembler Institute of Technology offered scholarships for their courses and master's degrees to all participants of the event who were interested, with the latter offering a 100% scholarship for the Software Development master's degree to one of the Hackathon winners.
With The International FemHack, NUWE's goal has been to give more visibility to women in the technology sector, increase female hiring, and create role models for new generations.
Thus, during a weekend women from different parts of the world challenged the algorithm of gender inequality in the technology sector, and will continue (and we will continue) doing so until it is no longer necessary to organize this type of hackathon like The International FemHack.
