El Born is the most emblematic neighborhood of the whole of Barcelona. It extends in the district of Ciutat Vella and is delimited from Paseo de Picasso to Pla de Palau, passing through such iconic Barcelona streets as Princesa, Rec and Passeig del Born. Santa Caterina Market

It was built on the site of a former convent (Santa Caterina, hence the name) and is the oldest covered market in Barcelona. It is under a colorful canopy inspired by the style of Gaudí, that trencadís so characteristic of the whole of Barcelona. Since Santa Caterina is a market, this building offers a unique a wide variety of food products and restaurants where it is ideal to walk around and get to know this traditional market.    

Santa Maria del Mar

The Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar is considered to be the best example of catalan gothic architecture. It was built between 1329 and 1383 with the participation of the entire population of the Born. The dark and blackened appearance of the interior walls of the basilica is due to the fire caused by anarchists and communists during the Spanish Civil War. In spite of this, it is a charming and unique temple. It is one of the most visited buildings in Barcelona for its beauty and popularity.  

Culture Center

It is a historical place which records some of the events of the War of Succession. It is the old Born market and, therefore, the first building of iron architecture in Barcelona, in 1876. In its interior is preserved an archaeological site of the houses that were demolished in 1700 in order to build a citadel of repression. The Born cultural center is, in short, a place where you will find a wide cultural and historical offer. It has a very attractive program based on literary, theatrical and musical activities.    

Paseo del Born

Along the route of this walk, the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar and the Born market gain prominence. The Palau de la Música
