More and more startups and large companies are choosing to settle in Barcelona to grow their different disruptive business models. This is one of the reasons why in recent years Barcelona is perceived as the European Silicon Valley and is the destination of choice for technology companies.
The most innovative cities in the world
The innovation sector has been distributed in different cities around the world. It all started in Silicon Valley, conceived as the world capital of innovation and together with the San Francisco Bay Area, have become the leaders in technology companies. This is where companies like Apple, Google, Twitter, Facebook... were born.
In addition to Silicon Valley, the United States is home to other innovation hubs in Boston, Seattle, New York, Miami, Austin.... Each of these cities wants to build technology hubs that allow startups to develop without limits. Most of the companies that achieve high growth and become 'unicorns' grew up in these technology hubs.
In recent years, and despite the American dominance, European cities have been postulated to encourage the growth of startups. Cities such as London, Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid or Amsterdam are the new innovation hubs and promote technology as a tool to improve the quality of life of their citizens.
Barcelona's innovative ecosystem
Barcelona is a city that meets all the requirements to be one of the epicenters of entrepreneurship. The mix between the quality of life, the good connection with the rest of the world, the international environment, the investment capital and the climate, make it the perfect destination to be a destination of desire for startups...
Companies such as Softonic, Privalia, Wallapop, Badi, Glovo or Travekperk have been born here and have had an exponential growth.
Why is Barcelona an international reference hub?
These characteristics have led to the proliferation of the image of Barcelona as a European technological hub. The history of the city shows its enterprising character; one only has to review the revolution that the textile industry underwent a century ago, or the universal exhibitions it has hosted to support the new technological advances of each era. That is why it is doubly confident that it will become one of the largest international hubs, and that it will transform the sector.
According to a study, last year there were 1,197 startups in Barcelona.a figure that is growing every year and that is why the city belongs to the top 10 European hubs. Moreover, it is an ecosystem that is stabilizing and with the passage of time becoming more and more mature.
Cities that are centers of entrepreneurship are not only because of their geographic location or the number of technology companies they have, but also because of the values they transmit. They tend to be open, tolerant, community-involved and inclusive cities. Barcelona meets this profile and also has local and international talent to provide competent profiles to companies.
At Aticco we enjoy the result of these connections from our entrepreneurial and creative ecosystem, where we share with our community the knowledge, experience and desire to design the future together.
