We reveal it to you:
Arc de Triomphe
Just 5 minutes walk away we find the first icon of Barcelona, yes, 5 minutes away! Which is the same: a nice short walk along Ronda Sant Pere until you find it on your right.
This monument is located at the beginning of Passeig Lluís Companys and was built by the architect José Vilaseca as the main entrance to the Universal Exposition of Barcelona in 1888. Since then, it has been one of the most important icons of Barcelona.
Throughout the year and headed by the imposing Arc de Triomphe, some fairs and festivals such as the Thai Festival, the Expotest and the Wine and Tapas Fair are held along the promenade until you reach the Parc de la Ciutadella. A perfect plan for after work!
A curiosity: at the top of the arch are the coats of arms of the 49 Spanish provinces.
Plaza Cataluña
The most famous square in Barcelona and also one of the largest in the country. In the heart of the city, it is the meeting point for thousands of locals.
It is the starting point for other icons of Barcelona such as: Las Ramblas, Rambla de Cataluña, Paseo de Gracia and Portal del Angel. Not to mention the Liceo theater, Plaza Universidad and Pelayo street.
Strolling through Plaza Cataluña is synonymous with finding yourself in the Barcelona of a lifetime, where in almost every street there is a story to tell. In addition, some of the most traditional stores of the city are still close by.
Keep in mind: if you take a picture in this square, you will never be alone; there will always be a pigeon with you. They are as native as any Barcelona local!
Citadel Park
We do not know if the Citadel Parkis the most beautiful parkin Barcelona, but it is certainly the best known and largest in the city. It is part of the Ciutat Vella district, a 10-minute walk from Aticco.
If you are visiting Arco del Triunfo, it won't be difficult to get to this park: just go down Passeig Lluís Companys and you will find one of the main entrances to the park. Get lost in it because it has many nooks and crannies to discover.
Some of the highlights are the huge waterfall, the greenhouse, the lake with the boats and the mammoth figure.
A secret: did you know that the Three Dragons castle (inside the park) is a zoology museum?
Canaletas Fountain
This is one of the most famous fountains in the city. Many stories can be told about it, but the most popular is the tradition of celebrating all the victories of Barcelona Football Club. Thus, every time Barça wins a cup, the Ramblas and its alleys are filled with "culés" and "blaugranas", celebrating the triumph of their soccer team...
It is also said that if you drink its water, you will return to Barcelona. At the foot of the fountain there is a plaque that warns, because who warns is not a traitor!
Something about the Canaletas fountain: it has always carried one of the most drinkable waters of the city, which is why it is so well known in Barcelona.
Catedral of Barcelona
The Catedral of Barcelona is known in different ways, including La Seu. It is a fine example of Gothic architecture and for this reason we place it on the list of Barcelona's icons. And it is only a 12 minute walk from Aticco.
Its beautiful facade presides over the Plaza de la Seu, where it is located. It is a very large temple that is sometimes overshadowed by the Sagrada Familia, but we love it!
Did you know that... 240 years before being a Gothic church it was a Romanesque church.
Batlló House
We could not finish this list without mentioning Antoni Gaudí, the modernist architect par excellence of Barcelona. He designed most of the icons of Barcelona and near Aticco, just 15 minutes walk away we find the Casa Batlló, located in Paseo de Gracia (15 minutes from Aticco).
The Batlló House is characterized by its beautiful and colorful facade, with tones very typical of Gaudí's style. To this day, this building celebrates different special days of the year by projecting lights and other elements all over its front: snowflakes in winter, red roses in Sant Jordi...
A detail: its roof, facade and interior are inspired by the movement of water.
