7 Feb 2022

The days January 21, 22 and 23, 2022 over 1,500 women of more than 50 countries (including Spain, the United States, Australia, Peru and the United States) participated in the online hackathon. The International FemHack: the first FemHack Hackathon of all-female participation accompanied by conferences educational programs provided by women leaders in the technology sector. The event was organized and coordinated online by NUWE from our facilities, the coworking and flexible work spaces of Aticco Workspaces in the city of Barcelona. The Hackathon (or programming competition) was designed to be suitable for all levels and offered to compete in the following categories Web, Mobile and/or Data Development. The tests consisted of a individual challenge and another groupin which participants from different modalities had to join forces to achieve the best score. The event also included a series of conferences, open to all audiences, given by women leaders in the technology sector. The themes of the talks varied widely, but all offered inspiration, female role models and motivation.

Our innovation director participated as a speaker at the FemHack hackathon.

The speakers were as follows (in order of appearance):
  • Celia Lozano Grijalba (Bosonit)
  • Idoia Martí i Aluja (AllWomen)
  • Imma Calvo (Google)
  • Cristina San Jose (Santander Bank)
  • Esther Cid Rodriguez (Tipscool)
  • Montse Salvany (T-Systems)

Naiara Chaler (Aticco) in FemHackWhat made the event stand out was the active participation of the leading companies Novartis y Banco Santander. These not only participated as sponsors of the event, but also as a recruiting companies with the intention of capturing female talent. NUWE set up a meeting space between participants aspiring to find employment and these companies through the virtual simulation platform. Gather. In addition to numerous awards for the winners of each mode of the Hackathon (such as now a 23.8" Huawei display), the prestigious programming schools Ironhack, CodeOp, 4Geeks Academy y Assembler Institute of Technology offered scholarships for its courses and master's degrees to all the participants of the event who were interested, with the last mentioned offering a 100% scholarship for the Software Development master's degree to one of the winners of the Hackathon. With The International FemHack, NUWE's objective has been to provide more visibility for women in the technology sector, increase female recruitment and create references for the new generations. Thus, during one weekend, women from different parts of the world challenged the algorithm of gender inequality in the technology sector, and will continue to do so (and will continue to do so) until there is no longer a need to organize this type of hackaton as The International FemHack.
