Are there gender or age barriers in blockchain technology? Women blockchain experts respond.
In order to answer this and other questions, during the month of March in Aticco we have organized a series of events on the role of women in the professional world and in different industries.
The first of these Startup Talksorganized in partnership with Upbizor, brought together four experts from the gaming industry. Now, in the second of the talks we turn to micro a group of curious and innovative women who are blazing a trail in blockchain technology.
These were:
- Teresa Garriga: Consultant for the Digital Transformation of companies.
- Marina Teixidor: CMO & Co-founder of Wohee
- Valeria Caracciolo: Business Development EMEA of Coinfabrick
The session, entitled 'Women on Blockchain, removing the barriers'.was moderated by Montse Guardia GuellCo-founder and CEO of Big Onion.
The gender gap and women in the blockchain ecosystem.
For Marina Teixidor, entrepreneur and co-founder of Woheea SaaS startup based on blockchain technology: "Although we are more and more there are more and more women entrepreneurs or developers, there is still an educational component. We have to change from education and get rid of the existing prejudices that if you are a woman you have to go into the humanities and if you are a man into STEM. I would like to think that little by little this is changing".
On the other hand, Teresa Garriga believes that blockchain is an environment conducive to more equality because, being a very new technology, "we are all starting from the same point".
The ethics behind blockchain
The question is often raised about the multiple uses that can be given to technological advances. The blockchain has a barrier to entry, which is lack of knowledge, and as Marina argued, there is still a negative connotation associated with asset speculation in the collective imagination. Even so, Wohee's CMO believes that: "once all its real utilities are known, this barrier will disappear by itself".
Valeria Caracciolo added that we must understand technology as a tool that can be put to various uses.
This question was one of the protagonists in the debate, and in fact the moderator, Montse Guardia, asked about it, asked by the attending pressargued that the uses depend on the ethics of the developers behind it and concluded:
"Technology is made by humans."
